How Do You Tell Your Mom?

My dear friend once said to me that she would prefer her son to come to her and say that he is a drug addict rather than come to her and say that he is a gay. Of course, it would be better if her sons have none of those problem what so ever, but if so, that was her choice.
Last couple of weeks, the entertainment world was stunned by Adam Lambert’s confession when he admitted that he is indeed a gay. For me that was not a surprise at all. From the way he was during the American Idol competition, I think anyone could tell, doesn’t really need a genius to notice. Duh! On the 20/20 interview, Adam was asked if he is gay or not and he was like, yeah I am and I am very comfortable with it. Well, good for you, man! And when he was asked about how was his feeling after came out of the closet, the talented Mr. Lambert was giving us his giggle and said that he felt a little bit funny or weird because of the using of the ‘came out’ phrase as he says that he was never been ‘in’. So yeah, bottom line, he was just want everyone to stop speculated about his sexual orientation and mind your own business because whether he was gay or not, he is a very talented young man. He was even won an award for that title.
But, back to my friend’s story above, when Adam was asked how did he tell his mom about this thing, I could see how he was proud with her mom and I can tell how was this people as a family. They looked pretty closed to each other, so when Adam was in high school, his mom actually confronted him about how did he like to have a girlfriend. Then Adam was like, hmmm…not really. So yeah, his mom then asked him if he prefer to have a boyfriend? And guess what, that young boy was like, yeah…that would be nice. Started from that conversation, the gate was opened and these mother and son never stop talking about this issue. Mrs. Lambert actually said that she was always knew about Adam’s sexual preference since early on when he chose to played dressed up rather than soccer. But she was okay with that and waited for a perfect moment to confronted him. What a mother! And even his younger brother also knew about this from early on. In one of those interviews, Adam’s little brother said that he knew that Adam is a gay since he learnt what the word gay mean is. So yeah, even his dad never been questioning about this issue, and of course, as a father, this could be a slap on the face for him, but am pretty sure that the old Mr. Lambert was okay already as we can see how he was there for his son all the way during the competition.
Then yeah, my questions are, if you are a mother, would you be prepared if any of your children come forward and say that they are gay? No, of course I won’t be wishing that for you guys, just a curiosity in my mind if you were Adam’s mother what would you do? And if you are a gay, how would you tell your folks that you are? Would you just come forward and tell them knowing that it would probably hurt their feeling? And how do we deal with this issue? Being gay or lesbian is not a choice that someone made willingly, but it was a gift from God and no one should be prepared for something like that. And oh yeah, with all of the modernization and open mind things what they called them now, many people said that they were okay with this issue, but when it comes to their love ones, are they still okay with it?
